Krems Unveiled: Hidden Gems for University Students

Written by:

As some of you may already know I started a Master on Environmental and Sustainability Management at the University of Applied Sciences in the Austrian city of Krems last year.

The IMC “campus” has multiple buidings strewn across the city, the Piaristengasse, an old monastery, being one of them. Only ten minutes walk from the city center, Piaristengasse lays on top of a hill – a little staircase connecting both – enabling students to get lunch in the pedestrian zone.

Another part of the IMC is it’s new campus. Sadly, I only have classes there on Saturdays, but I truly like what they did with the building, including multiple study corners and spaces like a kids room (for studying parents and their young kids, should they need it).

My favorite Restaurants

In the pedestrian zone my favorite restaurant for the last few months has been MoyoMe. I love the getting the daily menu or my personal favorite: Shakshuka. I’m obsessed with their “Breakfast all they long” concept!

I love getting the “Kokosstangerl” a coconut chocolate treat from the little bakery “Backstube Sabathiel”. They also offer coffee to go with a small discount if you bring your own cup 🙂

And last but not least, the Filmbar at the Kesselhaus which is situated right next to the IMC campus. We either go there to get some coffee in our smaller breaks or lunch on saturdays. They offer a variety of asien fusion kitchen dishes including ramen bowls, curries, gyozas, woks and falafel bowls.

Walk along the Danube

At the beginning of my studies we got to take a walk along the Danube as part of an ecology lecture. We got to see plants and animals that aren’t indigenous to the Austrian country side and how they have permanently altered it by being imported.

It wouldn’t have been a Sustainability course if my class mates hadn’t immediately started to pick up trash left unattended. (That’s how I knew I had found my croud 🙂 )

If you want to walk along the Danube I can recommend doing so in spring, summer or a sunny fall day. I added the route we took as a screenshot. The spot in the middle of the route marks the spot were I took the picture you can see on the right.

I will probably go back and add some highlights and spots in Krems later on – but for now that’s all from me ❤
